Lodestone Digital's FAQs
How is taking a class at Lodestone Digital better than:
National seminars?
Well, I have to admit even the folks at Lodestone Digital go to national seminars. Actually, most of the time the content is great, and well-delivered by the instructor. (Sounds too good to be true...)
There are a few things to take into consideration about these seminars. First, in most seminars there are no computers to work on. You need to be in an environment where you can practice, practice, and practice! Second, you have to digest a large amount of data in a short amount of time. The content is usually good, but you better pay attention because it goes by quickly. We think that the best training takes place in a small class, where each student has a system, and an ample amount of practice time.
Other training companies?
We are the only training company in the United States that offers a curriculum which focuses on print, multimedia and web development workflow. Many other companies offer similar classes, but they fail to point out the relationship between applications.
Because of our size, we are able to put together course content in a short amount of time. Give us two weeks after release of a new application, and we can have training ready to go. Other training companies take months to get their materials ready.
Schools or universities?
They are great environments for those who are getting a degree, or training for a new career. However, for a professional who needs just-in-time training, this is not the way to go. Classes are crowded, equipment and software are usually behind the times due to budgets, and it takes weeks to finish a class.
Training books?
Who has time to read a training book? I would much rather spend my reading time on either the newspaper or a good bit of fiction (sometimes those two are the same). The fact of the matter is, training from a book takes time. You will get much more in return from hours of uninterrupted training with a professional showing you the ropes.
Video tapes and CD's?
Hey, at least they are better than books. You can actually hear and see someone giving you instructions. The downside of this media is that you can't ask questions, and the environment you will be viewing these in is filled with distractions. Again, another example of where uninterrupted training with a trainer comes out on top!
Other questions:
Is one-on-one training available?
Yes. Right now training will be available on certain weeknights from 6-9pm, and Saturdays from 9am-12 noon. If you are interested, please call our voice mail and leave a detailed message.
Is on-site training available?
Yes. Lodestone Digital offers on site training. Please click here for details on our consulting services.
What about customized material?
If your organization needs a specific training topic, we can develop a class for you. Requirements: There must be four or more students, and additional software or manuals that must be purchased will be covered by you.
Your prices seem a bit high. Why?
First, we think that our prices are competitive for the quality of training we deliver. Second, we offer the added benefits of the following: one computer per person, professional instructors (who want professional pay by the way), and on-line training. You would be amazed at the amount of money people throw away on substandard training seminars. Some of these "seminars" actually cost more than ours, and you don't get to use a computer while you train!
